This post is about our recently released free Nokshi Expanded Font! Designed by Sevinch Saritasgusoglu and me, this glyph-packed typeface is contemporary yet classic in its look. Nokshi is a sans serif font that was inspired by the existing glyphs of Nastaʿlīq. We have added a number of extra diacritical marks that ensure good readability and a wide range of typographic possibilities in our font. There are many quality features in our font, in addition to the extra glyphs. Our font has been designed so you can use it in any language. There are four styles in Nokshi: Regular, Italic, Bold, and Bold Italic. The Regular style has around 850 glyphs, while the other three have around 900 each! There are six OpenType variants for each style. If you need more, you can download the extra glyphs from the Nokshi.org Fonts page. We have also designed a few other glyphs for Nokshi, including ligatures and other uncommon variations, so you can work with our typeface in many different ways. Nokshi also supports most of the Unicode character ranges (U+00a0 to U+007f). This means that our font can be used to compose Urdu text on computers and mobile devices whether they support Unicode or not. Below is an image of how Nokshi appears in Microsoft Word on Windows Vista/7 with Unicode support enabled. Its upright style makes it perfect as a display font as well as for smaller text. Nokshi Expanded also supports changing its weight from Extra Light to Black, and its stylistic sets can be used to change its serifs from Roman to Nastaʿlīq style. Nokshi has been a very difficult project, and we have tried to ensure that it is accurate by going over all the glyphs many times.
